Process

The Solid Waste Management District of St. Joseph County collects obsolete electronics at the District Household Hazardous Waste (HHW).


Residents can deliver electronics M-F 8:30-4 and Saturday 8-12 at 828 Kerr St., South Bend and Tuesday-Saturday 8:30-3 1105 E. Fifth St., Mishawaka*. Electronics from businesses or institutions will be accepted only through prior arrangement with the District.


All electronics are accepted free of charge.

*Mishawaka location is closed December till April

Large Items

The following types of large items are accepted:

  • Arcade size video games
  • Camcorders
  • Desk top PCs and accessories
  • Fax machines
  • Pinball machines
  • Power tools
  • Scales (electronic)
  • Scanners
  • Sewing machines
  • Speakers
  • TVs
  • Typewriters/word processors
  • Video game consoles (examples: VCR/laser disc players, Nintendo, Sony Play Station, Microsoft Xbox)
  • Microwaves

Small Items

The following small items are accepted:

  • Adding machines
  • Ballasts
  • Calculators
  • Cameras (film and digital)
  • Game Boys
  • Joy sticks/game controls
  • Palm organizers
  • Portable CD players
  • Postage machines
  • Radios
  • Telephones and answering machines
  • Uninterrupted power supply
